Increasing Volunteer Satisfaction through Job Crafting
Job design is typically a top-down process where organizations construct job descriptions that set expectations against which workers’ performances are measured and managed. Job crafting, on the other hand, is a bottom-up process where workers set the specifics of achieving a task within certain boundaries. In this Research to Practice, Laurie Mook reviews a study applying the concept of job crafting to the context of volunteers “as active participants and shapers of their volunteer experience” and the impact on satisfaction and organizational identification (Walk & Peterson, 2022, 8). The review concludes with implications and recommendations for directors of volunteer involvement.
