Kansas City native Paula Gangel taught high school English before transitioning into healthcare in the late 90s. Her first non-fiction work, Leading with the Carrot, is told from her unique perspective as hospital volunteer director who’s been in the trenches for 15 years. Personal anecdotes are based on her experience, working with volunteers in three different healthcare systems, including her current role at an academic medical center
Currently leading volunteers at The University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kansas, Gangel has served on the board of the Association of Healthcare Volunteer Resource Professionals, (AHVRP), and in 2004 received her Certified Administrator of Volunteer Services certification. She has served in various leadership roles for her local professional organizations for healthcare volunteer managers. She currently serves on the marketing and public relations board for Reach Out and Read, Kansas City, a nonprofit organization which fosters literacy for at risk children.
Although a devotee of Yoga and other exercise routines, Gangel never runs unless being pursued. She enjoys baking and entertaining friends and family, and is a voracious reader of self-help and popular fiction.
