Annette Maher's extensive career has included both volunteer and paid positions in the not-for-profit sector. She has worked for both Volunteering Australia, the national volunteering peak body in Australia, and earlier, at Volunteering Victoria as it developed into a state volunteering peak body. Maher has a keen interest in volunteering and has held a number of volunteer positions, ranging from event organisation to acting as a community guardian for over 20 years. In her role at Volunteering Australia, she edited the Australian Journal on Volunteering. Maher is undertaking a PhD study on the history of Volunteering Australia and its impact on volunteering in Australia.
