Jana Mendez has been Volunteer Initiatives Coordinator for Boulder County Government, in Colorado since January 2002. She is a member of the Association for Volunteer Administration and NAVPLG (National Association of Volunteer Programs in Local Government). She was awarded a journalism degree from the University of Colorado in 1981 and served 10 years as a Colorado State Senator (1984-94) and eight years as a Boulder County Commissioner (1994-2002).
Jana was named Outstanding Freshman Senator by the Colorado Social Legislation Committee and won the Kempe Center Outstanding Legislator award in 1993 for her work on child abuse prevention, in addition to many other awards earned during her legislative career. She had a “100 percenter” voting record with the Colorado Environmental Lobby and passed several pieces of legislation on child support issues.
Jana has three grown children and three grandchildren and lives in Longmont, Colorado .
