Phyllis Walsh retired in 2008 after eight years as the Community Service Coordinator and Director of The Learning Connection at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. From 1990 to 1999 she served as Community Service Coordinator for the Bethlehem Area School District (the lawsuit she discussed in this interview began just as she started her new job), being promoted after teaching in the District since 1968.
Phyllis served on the advisory council of the Governor’s Commission for National and Community Service for Pennsylvania (PennSERVE) from 2001-2008, and was a Pennsylvania Peer Consultant (1996-2007) and PennSERVE Fellow (1992-1995) for Service-Learning. She wrote the chapter on Community Service for the 1994 book, Educational Innovation: An Agenda to Frame the Future (University Press).
She has been a volunteer for the Bethlehem Musikfest Association since 1985 and is a former trustee. Phyllis has served on the board of the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley since 1990. In 2002 she was honored as “Woman of the Year” by the Bethlehem YWCA.
