Kayla Young is a Certified Training Partner with the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behavior, as well as a Certified Seizure Response Service Dog Trainer through the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides. She also manages a volunteer resources department at a rural hospital in Northern Alberta and owns a small business called Canines in the Community which provides Service Dogs to Canadians at no cost, as well as a small offering of private and group lessons for pet dogs.
Young has been an avid volunteer over the past 12 years. In her past role with the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, she has 7,000 hours on the job helping clients with disabilities be successful in acquiring the skills needed to work with their service dogs. She has an additional nine years of traveling across North America, the United States, and Spain to attend conferences on the subject of applied behavioral analysis for animals and humans. She is a past volunteer with the Epilepsy Classroom at the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children, where she was able to gain experience using direct instruction. She successfully completed a Management of Volunteers Certificate program through Humber College in Toronto in 2014 ,and was able to attend her first VMPC Conference last year in Edmonton.
Young resides just outside of the small community of Fairview, Alberta.
